Deacs Head South to Face Notre Dame

  • Wake Forest will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on Notre Dame in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Championship on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Demon Deacons are a No. 3 seed in the tournament, and the Fighting Irish are unseeded.
  • The Deacons defeated Georgia Southern 4-0 in the opening round of the tournament. The Irish downed Wisconsin-Milwaukee in their first round match.
  • The winner of Friday's second-round match will take on the winner of the Florida-UCF match on Sunday at 1 p.m., also in Gainesville.

Tournament History

  • Wake Forest is making its 17th-straight NCAA Championship appearance, which ranks as the sixth-longest active streak in the country. The Demon Deacons reached the second round for the seventh-straight year.
  • The Demon Deacons are one of the tournament's 16 national seeds for the seventh year in a row. They join Florida, Florida State and North Carolina as the only teams to be seeded in every edition of the tournament since 2006.
  • Last season, Wake Forest advanced to its first College Cup with wins over Oakland, Boston University, Penn State and UCF before falling to Duke in the semifinals.
