Marshall football: Hoskins named to Mackey Award watch list

Another Marshall football player has made another preseason award watch list, this time to honor the nation's top tight end. Rising senior Gator Hoskins was among the 37 names on the watch list for the John Mackey Award, named after the Super Bowl V winner and NFL Hall-of-Famer.

Hoskins caught 35 passes for 374 yards and a team-high 10 touchdowns for Marshall last season. Those 10 scoring catches were the second most in Conference USA in 2012 behind ECU receiver Justin Hardy's 11. That also was a single-season school record for tight ends. He was added to the 2012 Mackey watch list mid-season and was named All-C-USA by conference coaches.

Hoskins' place on the Mackey watch list follows quarterback Rakeem Cato's inclusion on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation's top college football player.?

The Mackey Award will be presented Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Other key dates include the announcement of the Mackey midseason watch list on Oct. 14, the semifinalists announcement on Nov. 18 and the finalists announcement on Nov. 25.
