New Milford 7, Danbury 1: The 12U New Milford Thunder beat Danbury 7-1 in second-round winners' bracket action.
Chris Gesualdi's leadoff homer in the second inning started the Thunder scoring. Kurtis Krizan's solo homer in the fourth made it 2-0. Gesualdi reached on an error and was plated by a Joey Shine fielder's choice to stake the Thunder to a 3-0 lead they would never give up.
Kendall Greene started on the mound for New Milford and pitched 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball before giving way to Max Cotier.
The Thunder move on to play Newtown in the finals of the winners bracket on Tuesday night for the right to play for the state championship.
AMERICAN LEGION
Bethel 7, New Milford 6:Jacob Voorhees went 3-for-3 with a run scored and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single on July 2. Dean Demers went 1-for-2 with three runs -- including the game-winner. Also for Bethel, Nick Spinella went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Cody Johnson, Erik Laaksonen, Mike Crimi and Zach Hottes each drove in a run. Matt Liquori started on the mound and went five innings for Bethel. Mike Koch relieved him and worked two innings for the win. For New Milford, Donny Ek went 3-for-4 a double and with three runs, Matt Brew went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Grayson Makris went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs and Michael O'Connell took the loss on the mound.
New Milford 2, Monroe 1: Corey Jerolmon pitched a complete game and allowed five hits and one unearned run while striking out five and walking three to earn the win on July 3. Dan Hedden drove in the eventual winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Keith Morsey and Brad Mannion had New Milford's only hits off Monroe's Matt Fedor, the tough-luck loser despite pitching a complete game and allowing only one earned run while striking out five and walking eight. Matt Duinigan went 2-for-4 with a run for Monroe.
Waterbury 3, New Milford 0: Jerry Ayala pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and three walks to lead Waterbury on July 4. Kyle Bonicki, Evan Devico and Thomas Rinaldi each had two hits in the win. Tyler Valzania pitched a complete game for New Milford (7-16, 5-12) and scattered eight hits while striking out four and walking none. Matt Brew and Brad Mannion had New Milford's hits.
