People these days can have very busy schedules which can mean they are not able to go out and do physical activities to divert their minds from work. That's why it is sometimes the easy option to opt for tasks that can be done from the comfort of your own home. That's partly the reason why these game consoles are gaining popularity. More and more people are opting for the latest gaming consoles today that are loaded with all the features they aspire for. Gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. For most people, the last thing they want to do when they arrive home after a long day at work, is do some physical activity. With the available technology that we have today, it is far easier, and much more appealing to kick back on the sofa and play your favourite games on your video game console.
Although gaming systems were developed for the home in console platforms, there have also been a number of handheld gaming devices introduced to the public. One of the early handheld models to be launched was called the Microvision. The Microvision was a hand-held game console released by the Milton Bradley Company in 1979. The Microvision was designed by Jay Smith, the engineer who would later design the Vectrex gaming console. With the Microvisions portability and cartridge system, it led to a decent number of sales, with Smith Engineering grossing millions of dollars in the first year of the system's release. However, the lack of cartridges, a basic, small screen, and a lack of support from established home video game companies, meant that production was halted in 1981.
The Xbox 360 is the second video game console produced by Microsoft, and was produced in cooperation with IBM, ATI, and Sis. Microsofts online community allows people to compete online and download content such as arcade games, music, trailers, TV shows, and movies. The 360 is the successor to the Xbox, and competes with the PlayStation 3 and the Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
One of the best elements about modern gaming is being able to play online. The world of online gaming is basically all about community. Gaming has gained such popularity that it could now be considered practically mandatory. Being great and skilled at playing these video games gives individuals several social advantages. Online gaming communities have proven to be powerful, profitable, but at the same time, very fragile. Based on studies and research conducted, gaming has become one of fastest growing niches within the entertainment sector. Revenue wise, it has even overtaken the movie business and is now believed to be one of the biggest markets in the world. Gaming is truly a social activity and the mere act of playing games has been directly linked in the establishment of relationships as well as social hierarchies throughout history.
