The Retail Windows Phone Channel Manager reports to the WE Retail Windows Category Marketing Manager
Role Purpose
The retail channel is vital to Microsoft?s growth not only for the direct revenue it generates, but also due to the retail channel?s unique ability to help build brand equity and engagement due to its outreach to consumer and small business customers worldwide. Microsoft has a long history of working with partners to reach end customers and this certainly applies to our retail go-to-market approach. Microsoft has developed tremendous relationships with retailers and distributors worldwide making our retail success possible. Windows has become one of the most engaging and recognizable consumer brands in the world today. Yet even with this fantastic consumer presence, the opportunity for growth in both our traditional PC business, as well as our new online services business with Windows Live has never been greater.
Retail plays a key role in selling more Windows devices to consumers. To confront strong competition in the Phone category, we need to drive customer purchasing experience through OEM, leveraging JMA program investments. We must communicate the value of a Windows Phone through RSP advocacy, in store merchandising and online experience.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
The Windows Phones Retail Channel Manager has direct responsibility and accountability for executing Mobile Operator & Managed Retail marketing plans and programs in support of BG direction. Support account collaboration, execution, and integration between category management, sales, and internal support teams (visual merch, field merch & training) to drive retail programs and execution around in-store presence, training, promotions, demo and events. Monitor business results to influence business and marketing decisions.
Key responsibilities for the Retail Windows Phones Channel Manager include:
- Engage together with OC team in designing JMA program for the region
- Design training strategy and execution across channels (Retail / Telco)
- Drive RSP (Retail and Telco) engagement programs
- Drive landing of promotional activities (OEM/Telco offers)
- Manage the relationship with Regional Phones BG to maximize opportunities through collaboration and planning
- Provide in depth business analysis on the regional Windows Phones retail market
- Work with Retail Services teams to land the retail channel component of a comprehensive channel marketing strategy that encompasses the People, Place, Demo and Online elements
- Own channel KPI for Windows Phones
- Drive development around retailer pitch decks and presentations for tradeshows, events and account tours
- Partner with Global Account Managers to drive programs and marketing activities across our top European Retail partners
- Support Local team in setting strategy and direction around account presentations and meetings

Key Competencies/Knowledge
- Visionary leader with strong conviction able to lead a team and keep them focused even when dealing with ambiguity
- Leader who has well developed competencies in developing retail strategies that drive customers to Windows products at retail.
- Strong understanding and relevant marketing experience in the mobile channel or mobile technology fields
- Broad skill set encompassing excellent marketing & relationship management capabilities, with proven ability to collaborate well with cross functional groups and virtual teams to achieve specific objectives
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative channel marketing strategies that will drive core metrics at retail
- Experience leading diverse v-teams spanning both corporate and field teams to drive win-win decisions against aggressive timelines
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Maturity in the following competencies: cross-group collaboration, dealing with ambiguity, Business and Strategy Leadership, Integrated Marketing Planning, and Customer Insight (as it relates to and through partners)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of the Microsoft channel sales model
- Great attitude and a passion for driving results and seeing projects through to completion
Experiences Required
- Significant experience working in consumer, retail and/ or Telco Marketing BA and/or MBA is preferred
- Ideal candidate will have prior consumer marketing experience, ideally of consumer electronics products such as Phones and PC HW.
- Must have lead v-teams or project teams in the past
